Recipe of the Week - 11/25 Low Fat Chili

Yield 6 servings 

Ingredients:

1 pound extra lean ground turkey

1 cup chopped onion (medium) 3/4 cup chopped red bell pepper (medium)

3 cloves garlic, minced fine

1 15-ounce can kidney beans, drained

1 15- ounce can red beans, drained

1 14.5-ounce. can diced tomatoes, undrained

1 14.5-ounce can Mexican-style stewed tomatoes

1 tablespoon ground chili powder

1 teaspoon ground cumin 

Instructions: Gather the ingredients. Begin to brown the ground beef along with the garlic, onion, and red bell pepper in a non-stick skillet until the beef is no longer pink. Drain any excess fat that cooks off of the ground beef and discard the extra drippings. Next, add the ingredients to the slow cooker.Combine the beef mixture with the remaining ingredients in a 4 quart (or larger) slow cooker. Gently stir the ingredients together with a spoon until all of the ingredients are well combined. Set the slow cooker to cook on low for five hours.
